International Exchange In Nursing

The Delta Goodrem Foundation is proud to support the St Vincent’s – Delta Goodrem Foundation Clinical Exchange in Nursing, through our partnership with the American Australian Association.

Established in 2024, the exchange enables St Vincent’s nurses and nurse researchers to travel to the United States, and American nurses to come to Australia, to undertake observation, research, and advanced clinical learning in leading international health institutions.

The exchange fosters collaboration and knowledge sharing among nurses and nurse researchers, encouraging the cross-pollination of ideas, advanced training opportunities, and research innovation alongside some of the United States’ most respected hospitals. Through immersive clinical experiences, participants work closely with renowned experts in their fields, sharing best practice and contributing to meaningful advances in patient care.

By bringing together nursing professionals from Australia and the United States, the program creates an environment of collaboration and innovation that helps push the boundaries of medical science.

In 2025, St Vincent’s first exchange recipients, Dr Nicola Straiton, a registered nurse and Senior Research Fellow, and Annabel Horne, Nurse Manager of St Vincent’s Cancer Stream, completed an immersive exchange at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Phyllis F. Cantor Center for Research in Nursing and Patient Care Services in Boston, USA.

By pairing a clinical nurse with a nurse scientist, the exchange bridged clinical practice and research, strengthening the translation of evidence into patient care. During the program, Annabel and Nicola engaged with more than 50 senior clinical nurses, oncologists, nurse scientists, epidemiologists, health managers and digital health experts.

Insights gained from this world leading cancer centre will now inform the development of new research driven models of care and nursing practice, supporting the delivery of world class care for St Vincent’s cellular therapies patients.

A donation to the Delta Goodrem Foundation helps us to continue our work of supporting Australian nurses to develop and deliver the very best patient care and treatments from around the world.
